Week 1: All went well for the first week. I was anxious to get this journey started. As with any new project or endeavor the starting is the easy part but my mindset is that this is more than a temporary fad or fix, this is a way of life.
Workouts were great, it felt good to get the blood pumping, and a few sore muscles were just a reminder of how I had spent my early mornings rather than sleeping. Looking forward to seeing how things progress.
Week 2: Again workouts were great. I'm still riding off the initial motivation which helps me drag my big butt (although slightly smaller than when I started) out of bed to get up to workout with JonEric or do cardio. I learned a few “good” exercises and by “good” I mean, “holy crap those kicked my a!$” good. Near the end of the week I could already tell my clothes were a little looser and my gut was not as Buddhaesque.
The tough part this week was that it was my birthday so I had several opportunities to chow down on some good food.
Exhibit A: We went to Jack Stack and of course the waitress gets told it is my birthday and sure enough as soon as the meal ends she brings out a big ‘ol warm fudge brownie with vanilla ice cream on top, slowly melting down the side (This is after having chicken and salad, at freaking Jack Stack, sheeesh.) Oh crap, what to do… I didn't want to hurt the waitress feelings; I sat there like a crack addict with the shakes, jonesing for a fix, debating what the hell I was going to do. One bite won't hurt, right? “Go ahead and try some”, I said to the others. They didn't need to be asked twice. “How is it?” I asked weakly, already knowing the answer. “Awesome!”… Of course it was. I thought… ‘Boy I can't wait to get home to eat my rice cake.' Well, as you already know the rice cake pretty much sucked but oh well, another temptation down.
Week 3: Another good week, it feels good to string a few good weeks together. I'm definitely feeling more energy as the workouts roll by. JonEric is the man with the plan, he's got me feeling lean and mean.
I did get a couple of, “dude are you losing weight or something?” from a few friends that hadn't seen me in the last few weeks. That was good and it re-stoked the fire to stick to healthier eating. The plan is working; I am dropping weight while putting on muscle.
Week 4: Not much new this week, still sticking to the plan. Eating right and working out. I was on auto-pilot: get up, workout, eat every few hours, go to bed and repeat. I did have some strong cravings for carbs after work a couple of days this week but stayed with lean and green for dinner. It paid off, as I had one of my biggest weight loss weeks.
It definitely helps to have my smoking hot wife working out and eating right with me. She is also training at His and Her Fitness (she's rocking the Casbah) and I don't know if I would have been able to maintain the discipline to eat right if she wasn't fully committed as well. It has been great to share this part of our journey together.
